money when you are doing it yourself.
Step-By-Step Guidelines To Help You Install The Vinyl Floor
Covering On Your Own
Step 1: Select your flooring that you must install
Step 2: Create the sketch of your room where you must
install the residential or commercial flooring. Do remember
that you must measure the dimension of your room accurately,
and having done so, you must take it to the showroom and
determine how much flooring material you need. It is essential
to get a few inches more because you will need to trim or cut
the edges. Do also get some adhesive because you will need it
later on.
Step 3: You will also need to ensure that the sub flooring
is smooth and flat. If there are low-lying areas or holes, you
should fill them up. Once done, you should leave it for an hour
for drying.
Step 4: At this stage, you will have to put the vinyl floor
covering on the floor, and mark those areas that need to be
cut. Remember, you had got a few inches more to ensure that the
entire floor is precisely covered. You can cut off using
heavy-duty shears or a utility knife – these are the tools you
will need. You need not throw away any excess material that you
have – keep them safely in the closet.
Step 5: Having ensured that you have lots of excess close to
the walls, you are now ready to lay your flooring in the final
position. Cut around obstructions and for the inside corner,
you must cut half circles till the tiles are flat on the
ground.
Step 6: Roll back your flooring close to your walls and
expose the sub floor. Roll it along the wall’s length because
this will help you cur precisely.
Step 7: To install vinyl flooring, you must line up the
edges against your wall and tape it down lightly. You can use a
masking tape for this. Apply the tape every 2 feet and take out
the backing from the tape that you will find on the top.
Step 8: You must roll your flooring material on the template
and press it down firmly. Now lift your vinyl gently and the
template that is stuck on the backing of the vinyl will be
revealed. The vinyl needs to be cut from the paper’s outer
edge.
Step 9: At this stage you will have to cut the vinyl and you
should do so along the edge of the template. Every room surely
has many walls and you should thus repeat the process from step
6 to 8 for each of the walls. Remember to keep the vinyl firmly
in the right position and trim it accurately along the
wall.
Step 10: Here’s where you need the adhesive. Use a
fine-notched trowel and spread the adhesive along your walls –
the band must be about six inches wide.
Step 11: The flooring material must be attached to the
adhesive here. Once you have spread your adhesive material on
the floor entirely, you must lay your vinyl in position, and it
would be good to use a hard roller to press the vinyl and the
adhesive. Or if you want to save money, you could use wood too
for this. But do ensure that you have the wood covered with
some clean cloth. Apply good pressure because the vinyl and the
adhesive must stick properly. Once done, you have to leave it
for drying for about 2 to 4 hours. You can even laminate the
floor covering to protect it from any damages.
Step 12: Replace the shoe molding and the trim along your
walls.
Step 13: Once your adhesion is dry, move the furniture back
into the room.
Step 14: Your effort to install vinyl flooring is now almost
done. All you have to do is clean the flooring and you can
stand back and appreciate your efforts.
